I went to the haunted house attraction there and it is so demeaning to all of the people who suffered there. I thought atleast they would have given us some history, but I gueess that was mistaken

My mother was a patient there in the mid 1960's to the 1980's , was a truly horrible depressing place where there seemed to be no fresh air, thats what I recall most aside from all the locked doors, just that feeling of stale air and being confined . youd come out of there and take a big breath. my mother just got worse and worse there. I cant see how anyone could have gotten better in such a dark depressing place. your photo's are terrific.

Maybe the Steps once went out to a fire escape. Why it would be in the bathroom not to sure but thats probably the only thing i could think of to why they would be by a window. As for the pink boys room maybe someone moved the sign or back in those days they thought boys liked pink hah.

Wow....I was doing research & stumbled upon this page. I'm actually quite frightened because I have had teh same dream with slight alterations in every one of them but the thing that never changed was THAT excat building. Well, it was in tact kinda, but when I went to find help and I returned to the building it was like, destroyed. Kindof like in hte photo above. I don't know what to think exactly but I hope it's just an odd coincidense.

There was a book written about the children they tested on , mostly boys . They call themselves the state boys. Many were not developmentally disabled , but just hard to handle or had behavior problems or considered delinquent so they were put into the the homes. Some became what is called insitutionally retarded.
