these pictures have brought back a lot of very
sad and upsetting times for me
I sincerely hope each and every one of you who look and appreciate these amazing pictures and beautiful architecture NEVER EVER forget what this asylum was REALLY about.
A hospital for very unwell and in some cases very disturbed people,
The LUCKY ones like me live to tell the tale. The others are sadly no longer with us.
Dont forget this was my home for 4 plus years, for many many oeople this was their home for 10 20 30 and even 40 years!.
i have to say a big thank you to mr motts for ending this chapter and 4 years of my life with the most amazing and poignant picture.
i have spent the last hour or so in tears remebering what REALLY went on behind these closed doors
THANK YOU motts. YOU ARE A LEGEND!

Beauty in the Emptiness

MISS HAWKE is quite correct. The hallways were VERY intimidating, whether on our own or with a group of fellow patients and staff being escorted somewhere .

this corridor looks like the one i actually ran down when i was trying to escape.
previous comment about having a sock race is quite peverse as we werent allowed shoes and socks whenever we left the ward so IF we did manage to escape we could be identified by staff immediately.

They didnt allow the locks on the inside to avoid us self harming.
We were bathed in groups of 10 --males and females together. Mr Bradley is correct, we would ALL have to bathe in the SAME water, mainly to save MONEY , but also to save time..
We were escorted by 4 or 5 regular nurses and 2 or 3 student nurses. We were taken to and from the bath area naked, so as to save time, and keep the levels of power in their control at all times.
