how could one get into the shaft (unless the doors have rotten away or vandels destroyed it)

has the elevator crashed at the bottom of the shaft???

it looks like the shot woz taken from the top of the elevator cart. has it crashed at the bottom of the shaft???

maybe its because he's one of the elevator crazy people like me who scavenge ol elevators.
