Dispite some of the jokes made above I have seen this piece of equipment used in a way which would upset most. Uncooperative patients were tied to it in order to get weighed.

several of the wards had a piano and a person from the womens institues used to come and olay for everyone, especially at christmas.

the floor was parquet floor which butted up to tile edging. The metal on the wall was a long radiator which was covered to prevent people with learning disability burning themselves, Thats what we call them these days.

this is a photo of the main lounge on cartwight home. 60 people used to live here. there was a two foot gap between the beds upstairs in the dormitory.
