Typewriter Room

blue lamp

I loved typing in HS...I took 2 1/2 yrs of it. I think it helped me with computers....at least for the keyboard aspect of it. Unlike the finger people, as I call them, that don't know how to type on a keyboard.....so I think its helpful. I still use a typewriter at work but those days are numbered I guess.....makes me sad......I'll always have loved a typewriter.....but progress must march on......than theres the saying....the more things change the more they stay the same.......oh well.....thanks for the pictures Motts......

Empty Room

blue lamp

I guess those of us that have never had to be in an instution at all in there life (including me) we should be very thankful for what we have. Some of these people (from what I've heard & read here) they had nothing not even families that cared about them. But like others have mentioned here in this thread too ....I agree with Lynne that I would rather be there than be gone.....but than yet I never had to live there some of the Pennhurst residence my tell a much different story? I guess that is there story to tell really.......my heart goes out to them though......

Book Pile

blue lamp

Yeah its a shame that the books weren't dispose of in a proper manner or recycled....unless of course someone may have wanted them. I guess I'll not ever understand why when any hospital or company closes (or in this case shut down) why is so much left behind?? All the equipment and most importantly the medical records should be diposed of properly....not just left for vandels to steal and destroy.....I'll not ever ever understand this ...........

A Dead Building

blue lamp

I think the 'Ghost Adventures' team believe's its haunted though.....it was an interesting watch ....mostly I wanted to watch it for the place the beginning of it was the best part of it not the ghost hunting. Though I do like to see or hear there evidence.....for what its worth.....anyway.....

Bed

blue lamp

All I can think of is all the pain & suffering that went on here...not just in this persons bed but the buildings alone. As they say ...." if walls could talk...." I think these walls would have much to say......

A World of Pink

blue lamp

Yeah those are some strange colors there. The light coming through the windows where the pink is really nice. It really lights up that space alot....considering at night with no light (other than the Moon that is) how dark those places would be......great shot as always Motts!! Another sad & lonely chair as well....

I love the one chair shots too Motts!! Great as always.....it still looks like a sad lonely chair though......

Dormitory

blue lamp

Yeah I agree it does look like a bathroom not a 'room' for people. Not much privacy here is there. Ugh...that would not be good. Esp if a patient made alot of noise you wouldn't be able to sleep at all......

Greet the Sun

blue lamp

Motts its great when I see new postings up by you. I also love your web site. You do a great job. I hope someday you publish a book of your photos cause they are awesome .....great way to perserve some history.....cause these places and many others that you have pictured are going away all of the time. Esp at these asylums & hospitals. Its important to not forget the past or we are doomed to repeat it.......thanks again.

Cast Down

blue lamp

Yeah, a caged animal , thats a good description. Really it isn't a life....it is only exsisting. I guess that's what you get when you do evil crimes. I think I'd rather just be dead than be caged like some animal. Exsisting like that isn't worth it. I could say the mental hospitals might be better but than yet not much. (other places that Motts has taken pictures of) but really horrible things happend there too. They were caged as well just for different reasons. Interesting pictures Motts.

Ascend

blue lamp

Hey TootUncommon: I do realize that its not just Detroit. I only say that cause I live close to Detroit.(suburbs).........but not in Detroit. Of course most Cities have the same issues....it just seems that here we get lots of negative publicity in regards to the shell that the City of Detroit has become....not that its not deserved.....so I guess I'd say a shame to all Cities that just let things go.....but it seems that it will continue to happen.....but it is sad nontheless.....its just a shame really.....to not reuse old buildings for something else....its a crime really.......IMO anyway.....

Ascend

blue lamp

I second that......what a total waste of a once beautiful old building......that could've been used wisely.......shame on the City of Detroit for doing this......but most of the downtown is a waste land too.....sad .....such a waste land......I wished you could've gotten pictures of the old Hudsons building before it went to the wrecking ball.....sad I never got to go to that store when it was around either.......
