Shades of Blue

My favourite pic so far! I love the floor, and I like the echoing arches in the hallway and in the windows. The doors at the end look intriguing too!

Especially considering a title, the elevator theory is a good one. Otherwise, I probably would have guessed toxic chemicals or something.

A beautiful tribute to all these people who seem to have been otherwise forgotten. Thank you Motts!

A Boy and His Dog

That's exactly it! It's even got that comment about the knife that I remembered. Thanks for that link, Peter. It was driving me nuts.

A Boy and His Dog

Argh, this is really bugging me. Where HAVE we all seen this painting before? I've tried googling "boy dog painting hospital" and all sorts of combinations involving asylum, mental, knife, etc. I'm so sure I've seen a photograph like this before, and somebody commented on the boy's hand holding an object. I just wish I could find it! It would be so odd if the same painting had been photographed in another hospital. Is the name of this hospital an alias? Because nothing comes up when I google it.

Nuts, I can't access it either, although apparently my university has a hard copy of it somewhere. That would be an interesting read!

A Boy and His Dog

Yeah, I've definitely seen that painting before. And there was a caption or comment about how it looked like he was supposed to be holding a knife in his hand or something. Ring a bell for anyone else?

Agony

birdy

Just hazarding a guess... but if all that poop on the table is from the cat, then it must have been around for a while. Maybe the shrinking tendons or something pulled the head back like that after the cat died?

Still... freakin' creepy.

Grim Outlook

birdy

I've noticed that a lot of comments on these photos tend to label as "creepy" items that are actually quite benign when you know what they're intended for.

But, this picture is just freakin' creepy.

I really love this shot. All those disused seats stretching away.

Doors

birdy

wow, I don't like those doors at all. Even knowing it just leads to a ballroom, I don't like them. With the placement of the windows, they remind me too much of surgery doors but with the studs... shudder.

Remaining Bed

birdy

Hey, I like that bed. If it were a little less functional looking, I'd put it in my room. Although I suppose they weren't thinking aesthetically when they chose the furniture.

Window Niche

birdy

Ditto, DaveWilly, I'd love to have a little space like this in my attic. I'd put an armchair there and sit and read by the light of the window and drink tea. I love little nooks and crannies like this, I don't feel any 'pain and sorrow' at all looking at this picture!

Wow, I wonder why this room looks like it has disintegrated so much but some of the other rooms look brand new?

Syringe

birdy

Quin, I was going to say, that ball on the end doesn't look like any syringe I've seen. Pipettes would make more sense, although there still doesn't seem to be any demarcations on the side? Still, that's a funky-looking piece of equipment!
