Wow, not only an amazing location but equally so is the fact that you captured a photo of the elusive goat remnant! I've read the caption, I see them next to the fountan, still hard to believe I am actually seeing not one but two in the same shot.

No matter what toy it is, why is the now exposed "skull" exactly the same color and texture as an actual real-bone specimen? Maybe the skin that once covered this frame was equally, and oddly, just as realistic. If so, it's intended purpose could only be mimicry of horrors unimaginable, which were played out to countless audiences of one, in puppet shows no one should have had to attend; Evil was the star of this show and Evil pulled the trigger that moved the mouth but the art of ventriliquism was a craft mastered by the wide-eyed spectators, which is evident by the screams heard among these walls, voices thrown long ago yet still audible if you listen closely. If this head finds its jaw, "Encore!" is the word it would say, the last word Evil had intended to come from the dolls mouth, silenced abruptly by the hospitals closure and the twisted practices that were never to be spoken of again.

Caught

Looking back on the night of their adopted sons very first Halloween, both parents agree that dressing him up as one of the three little pigs was indeed the right choice as it was cuter on him than they had ever imagined and they couldn't wait to go out and show him off. How frusturated they became as time and time again people would claim they saw him as "The Devil" or refer to him as "The Antichrist" . Door after door opened to greet their request for "Trick-or-treat!" but not one person mentioned anything about the pig costume, only repeated inaccurate descriptions like the one in which someone saw him as "The Son of Satan" and was sure he was "A Demon Conceived in Fire and Delivered To You from the Pits of Hell". Now, in retrospect, the parents know that those people only saw the horror that they brought to their doorsteps and to them it wore no mask, and the words they spoke were warning them of the Evil that they nurtured, nothing to do at all with the pig costume Evil was wearing. It is now so easy for them to see that the true form of their adopted son, Damien, was hidden from them all along, one of its many disguises an adorable pig costume, now revealing itself to them from under the cloak that they created together, its intention, the metephore of a parents love, commitment, and protection. Not the incubator for something that usually grows just fine all by itself... What have we done, my Dear?

It looks as though the wall is reaching out to embrace the door, as if to say "There there, everything is going to be o.k.".

The tape you see on the floor is actually covering the seams in the carpet padding which was exposed when the carpet itself was pulled up. I think what you are seeing in the lower left is the carpet with the backing facing upward.

Rebar

Could the rebar be there due to the damage caused in an escape ( or an attempted one), or was that grid put up more recently? Just a thought.

If this place is to be torn down, I wonder how one could possibly purchace some or all of the staircase sections. What a cool way to access a tree fort for my daughter!!! Any thoughts?

I love the way the light is creeping into the dark at an angle like that. It's as if the light has just peered around the corner of the door jamb to confirm the coast is clear, and to pause just long enough for the courage meter to rise ever so slightly, *Click!* Motts snaps picture as light takes the first timid step into the opposite.

Did anyone notice the reflection of the door in the light fixture(?) on the ceiling? Kind of looks like indian teepees as they would be portrayed in some type of cave drawing. Those light panels seem awfully smooth and reflective...more like one-way glass than opaque light diffusing panels. Hmmmmm.........

Shadow

After one spends some time away from home, whether the trip was good or bad, long or just for the day, there is always an exhilarating excitement one feels when you make the final turn allowing you to see your home, familiar and comfortable, through the trees and silloueted against the evening sky. It's good to be back. To me this photo captures that feeling, but with a dark and hellish lunacy. A snapshot from a moment in that same event, but seen through the eyes of Satan. It gives me some sence of joy, but of which would also be the joy felt by demons. Amazing photo, Motts. Always impressed, and now possessed!

Safe

....and as the massive rust laden door silently swung open towards me, my thoughts were not of fear but of intrigue. How can this solid steel door,it's hinges unmoving for decades, open with such fluidity? A delicate precision one might compare to the normally unnoticed movement in the hinges of a finely crafted silver locket. My falsley soothing thoughts suddenly give way to terror as I realize what a horribly fatal mistake it was to enter here. What was I thinking? What in Hell is causing putrid smell? So this is where I die.....how sad those that love me will be....Nobody deserves to go like this.

Now stripped of any previous facades, I see no hint that this place, once intended to be an institution for medically guided mental rehabilitation, could have ever been capable of holding any type of warmth within it's walls, actual or perceived. The chill I feel has set in and the melt will be slow. Oh, so slow.

Endless levels of emotion were captured in this photo. Do we want to escape or do we actually need to gain entry?
