Alice paced up and down the delicate balcony, her hands clawing the air as she raged far above her party guests. The cake was late, and in the wrong color, the bunting on the columns did not match the ruffles on the other side, etc. Luckily, none saw her in this state, they were all pleasantly distracted by the live dissection of a party clown, which had been specially bred for this occasion.
Alice glanced down at the delighted crowd, and decided to try to enjoy the day. After all, isn't that what birthdays are for?

I would say that the giant beetle-leg crossing the doorway is more of a damper!

The wind changed direction, sweeping down into the little glade in which the house stood with its tall chimney. Hansel swallowed nervously and looked up from his feast of candy, just in time to see the crone's wicked grin....

Simon groaned and pulled the threadbare pillow over his head. He knew it wouldn't work, the patient three doors down hadn't stopped screaming since Thursday. The vaulted ceilings made every shriek and sob audible even to the upper floor. Simon put the pillow back and stuffed his fingers in his ears....blessed quiet. Dimly, he could still hear the shrieks, but at least now he could get some sleep.

The doctor outside Simon's room shook his head, and turned from the observation window. This one hadn't stopped screaming since last Thursday...

It's a passageway for the Grither.
It sits in the basement or the attic, and never moves, but its arms are loooonnnnggg and can reach anywhere in the house. It can only get you if you think about it too much.....oops.

An ever-hungry horde of rats trailed after her, feeding on the shreds she left behind, and she followed after them; a perfect symbyosis.

Archie wiped his hands on his pants and gave the heavy rack one last heave. It settled into place with a reluctant thunk, echoing the faint pounding from below. The thick Persian rug had been his mother's favorite; having been bought to silence her demands, it now silenced her screams of anguish as the rats below did their work.

Motts you have truly outdone yourself with this collection. This series is just breathtaking, and I am so grateful to you for bring it to us.
