Ceiling Decor

Van Gogo

Beautiful. The combination of the color and the medallions puts me in mind of Louis IV period decor, or a similar period.
Definitely looks french, love the soft blue.

terry d, thanks for a much-needed laugh!
The funny thing is, it does look like a bladder ready to burst, kind of like me in the morning after my Starbucks kicks in!
I pity the poor person this particular "bladder" bursts on,lol.

What Is Left

Van Gogo

As Lynne posted ,with links, the architecture was specifically designed with the well-being of the resident's in mind. Adam A, I can only imagine the A stands for ass, to make such an ignorant, callous remark.
So I suppose in your fine estimation all the "crazies" should have been put in sterile looking buildings, perhaps like military barracks? Hmmmmm, yes, I can see where THAT would be therapeutic!
Believe it or not, they are people who feel, just like you and me. Ok, well, more like me I suppose but there you are.

Thanks AquariusP, I'm not sure what became of him because it just got to be to much for my ex-boyfriend so we stopped going.
Then ex-bf and I broke up and the rest is ancient history now, twenty years ago or more. I think he ended up being released home to his family where they took care of him but can't remember for sure, thank you for your kind words though, these things are never easy for anyone involved.

Perambulation

I for one, apologize for all my useless and silly remarks on here, InSearch is right about that.
On the other hand, do you really think ALL of your posts are edifying and stick to the subject at hand? or are useful somehow? Your sparkling commentary on the picture of the plastic chairs is just one example.
Like I said, I know I have been an offender, and will knock it off, but people who live in glass houses etc etc....

Yes, he was in one of the older buildings if memory serves correctly. I lost touch after I broke up with the guy I was going with at the time, it was actually his friend we used to visit there. It was long before the fire so if he was still around by then you would have probably gotten him at your nursing home. He was originally from Portugal and didn't speak much english, after his "experience" with angel dust, he didn't really speak at all, real sad.

Hip Straps

Van Gogo

"I have to go now Clarissa, I'm having an old friend for dinner". I'm sorry, I KNOW it says "hip straps" but my first thought at seeing this was that thing they had on Hannibal Lecter's mug in Silence of the Lambs.

Thank you Lynne, right back at ya! I don't mean to get all wound up about this, it's just it boggles my mind to see, in this day and age, that there is still so much ignorance surrounding the whole mental health issue thing. I think a lot of people take what they see in movies or read in books and believe it to be gospel truth, real evidence not meaning a thing to them.
It boils down to the fact that many people love to be chilled, thrilled and titillated because society in general has become so addicted to constant entertainment.

I imagine it sounds like a cessna when it starts up. It reminds me of one of those old Captain Nemo, 40,00 Leagues Under the Sea flicks.

Man oh Manesheivetz! my heart is in my mouth just thinking of how high up you must have been to get this shot!
I love this, it reminds me of the top of either the Munster's house or the Addams Family, can't remember which I'm thinking of.

Granted, the individual colors are pretty lurid but the effect of them all together in layers is actually kind of cool, kind of a carribean look to it, islands colors mon.

Great before and after shots, very interesting. I love the wood in that bookshelf, it's very beautiful looking and it must have been a pleasant room to study in "back in the day".

Weaponry

Ahh.... the uses I would have for this.....rubs hands together and cackles madly. Seriously I would like to mount something like this in my trunk with a mechanism that would cause it to start rising out of the trunk when tailgaters get too close, give them something to think about.

I like the greenish/greyish tint and all the switces give it a "science fictioney" kind of look, makes me think of old sci-fi movies.

Building 93

Van Gogo

I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, but why would having a patient look out the window at you be scary? Now if the patient was throwing something out the window at you, that 's different.
I'm amazed at how much people put supernatural attributes on these places and the people who lived in them.
Guess what, they were just ordinary people like you and me(ok, probably more like me 'cause I'm a bit nuts) the difference being they needed help that places like these provided.
What in the world is spooky, scary, etc etc about that?
Someone looking out a window doesn't creep me out, someone putting their bum in the window, well, that's a different story.
If I saw someone looking out one of these windows I would have waved to them and tipped them a smile.

Chair

Van Gogo

Danny Being Manny noticed the same thing I did (be afraid Danny, be very afraid). My first thought was this chair looks like something out of PeeWee's Playhouse. It's kind of grouchy looking with one eye kind of leering and the other one shut, a dickeyed up mouth and a few battle scars. It looks like it's saying "come on, sit on me seat, I dares ya!". Then again, it probably looks ornery from having all kinds of smelly arses plunked in it.
