Reminds me of a funhouse at Salisbury Beach years ago called The Wacky Shack or some name like that. One of the rooms had the same kind of tilty doorway effect, which wasn't good when you were wasted on Tango and weed.......bleargh...

i don't know why but this reminds me of the Golden Gate(which has only two arches) in the Old City section of Jerusalem.

I thought the same thing right away, the grim reaper, very disturbing crypt.

Not only do they lie about zeroing it out but they put their big toe on it when you aren't looking. And believe me, my nurse has one heavy toe.......

I have a theory that ugly drapes such as these schmattes, along with cockroaches and rats, will survive even a nuclear holocaust. You just can't destroy the darn things!

Actually McLean Hospital is in Belmont, MA.
Don't mean to be a know it all or butt in with my two cents, but I know this for a fact because my dad's grandfather spent a lot of time there as a resident. It was a far cry from the state hospitals of the day and basically was only for the well -to-do set, as it is today, albeit on a much smaller scale.

They look like watercolor half pans still in their wrappers.

I couldn't date one of those, I'm married.

It would make me even uneasier if the 666 was in their forehead or right hand.... :-/

The next town over from me has an old shaker cemetary with metal grave markers. When my sisters and I were teenagers the markers used to spook us something awful!
They are white and almost skull shaped and sit atop these long poles, truly unique.
Even now, as an alleged adult they sometimes spook me if I drive by them at night, on certain nights the white on them almost glows.....yikes... and I am not a believer of ghosts at all but still find it rather creepy.

Amazed, my guess would be that in some instances they did have patients paint some of the murals, as a form of art therapy. Some of the murals were probably done in themes that the staff felt would be conductive to an atmosphere of inspiration for the patients during art therapy or such. They may seem weird to you or me but keep in mind these were in a therapeutic setting and people did the best they could with what they had.
There are members on here who work in the field that can answer this much better than myself but that's just my guess for what it's worth.
I suggest if looking at pictures like that bother you to pass it by and just look at the ones that don't.
