In September of 1966 I sat in this auditorium, an unwilling freshman at this stupid, shallow, anachronistic debutant school (for girls who weren't very bright, but who were very rich and needed to be somewhere where they could attend "mixers" with all of the ivy league boys schools, so they could get their "ring by spring"-- the common chant at Bennett Jr. College in those days.) As I sat in my first "Assembly" in this very same auditorium, the then President of the college had a slide show of only 2 slides on the screen in this photo. He alternated the 2 single pictures back and forth, and back and forth. They were: 1. a photo of a chimpanzee , and 2. a photo of Timothy Leary. The President of Bennett Jr. College was informing the new students that Leary had rented the property adjacent to the college, and that anyone found on his property would be immediately expelled. That's where I ended up spending most of my 2 years...
