I read in the Boston Herald a year or so ago, that the cemetary at Danvers was restored and names were placed on the grave markers that originally had numbers to give respect to the patients that died there.

Has anyone heard the latest status of these buildings, are they going to be saved when the new WSH is built? I know there is a group of preservationists trying to save them. Lets hope this group comes through!

My husband owns a 1948 Packard. They are really beautiful cars. Not many around anymore. This is a fascinating photo (like all of Mr Motts photos! :-)!

Haunted House

I agree with you Mike. Too many parks in New England were lost to high priced housing. We had Whalom Park and Paragon Park that were wonderful places too. It is sad that kids can't experience these wonderful old traditional parks today. Riverside Park in Agawam was a great traditional park until Six Flags took it over. They got rid of most of the rides I remember. The thing is not everyone can handle the roller coasters and that is what Six Flags focus is on. I can see why they are loosing money.

Hi Motts,
This photo is really something, like out of a dream scape.

Why is this beautiful place abandoned? I am surprized it has not been restored. It is really something and would make a great tourist attraction.

Keep the pix coming! :-)

Carousel

The Other Lynne

Hi John Black,

The ride is operating at Misquamicut /Atlantic Beach Park. It has metal replacements and a few of the original MC Illion horses that were on the original Misquamicut carousel.

The small kiddie carousel that used to be at Rocky Point is operating in Cranstion at a Dairy Queen.

I am glad to see these two carousels still in operation. It is too bad the large carousel was broken up for collectors. The replacement animals are just not the same as the originals.

Carousel

The Other Lynne

This was my favorite ride, the carousel. This carousel was very unusual. It not only had horses but it had all types of animals. The outside row had very large standing animals and there were two inner rows that moved up and down. I would assume at one time it had a brass ring machine since the outside animals were stationary. I was sad to hear that this carousel was being auctioned off.

Unfortunatley RP Park never maintained it properly and the wooden animals were in pretty rough shape last time I seen it. The damp salt air took it's toll on the animals.

Now the animals are in the hands of collectors and this ride is only a pleasant memory for me.

So sad this wonderful place is gone. I remember the excitement of finally getting to Rocky Point (after an hours drive) and seeing this sign. It is so sad that these places (including the Warwick Musical Theatre) no longer exist for families. Parks like Rocky Point, Whalom and Paragon were so much better then the "Six Flags" corporate parks. These parks had charm and personality, not to mention great old fashioned rides and fun.

Spire

The other Lynne

This was one huge fire, seen for miles! Destroyed 7 new apartment buildings that were not completed yet. There was an areal shot of it in the Worcester Telegram.
I went to the Avalon Bay webcam to see if I can see shots of the place after the fire and they put a password protect on it.

These spires remind of the ones that are on Worcester States' Kirkbride buildings.

I am curious to know how these fires started.

The older part of Worc State closed I think sometime in the late 1960s /early 70s. They had hot rollers back then ;-)

It is sad that today's generation of children will never know these wonderful places like Enchanted Forest and Rocky Point Park. These parks had a lot of charm. Too bad they are just a memory......

Haunted House

The Other Lynne

What a cheesy ride this was! But oh so much fun! :-)

What a shame what became of a wonderful park. I can still remember that huge salt water pool that was seen when driving in. The dining hall was vast with tables as far as the eye could see. The shore dinner was a must for anyone visiting the park that loved sea food. The happy tunes of the menagerie carousel, the music blasting from the Music Express, screams coming from the coaster....now all gone.

All I can think of is "Session 9"......
Isn't this already condos? I heard they were pretty high priced. Anyone out there living in one? Now it is called Avalon Danvers.

Carousel

Two of the horses are for sale on mycarousel.com. The Armored horse and the Indian horse. The Stork was also for sale on the site at one time.

I knew the park was doomed when the figures were sold. I did see the metal replacements on my last visit there. The magic of that carousel was gone once the original figures were sold. And of course a few years later a wonderful park was closed perminantly.
