Waiting for Laundry

Taubin

For some reason, when I first saw this shot, I thought of something getting sucked up the chute ala bank drive through mode. Maybe I just have some odd reverse thought process. It's an amazing shot. Looks really welcoming and comforting to me for some reason... I can't explain it.

To re-iterate how painful it is/was, when my uncle talked about it, he stated he asked the doctor to kill him instead of continuing. He stated the treatment was worse than the burns by far, and if he had known how bad it was going to be, he would have laid in the fire and happily died. He was by no means a sad, or suicidal person, it just hurt that badly. I of course am glad he didn't die, and he turned out ok, allot of scarring etc which is expected. For some reason seeing some of the tubs on the site reminded me of him recalling his experiences.

Thanks for the medical term Lynne.

By the way, if you are weak of stomach, or eating beef jerky, as I was, don't do a google images search for debridement.

Motts, have you ever come across a "burn tub" (not sure the proper term for it). They were used to help burn victims by using airiated water jets to gently remove the burnt skin/flesh. My uncle was burnt very very badly when the gas station he owned went up in the late 50's early 60's and they used a tub that did that. Maybe Lynne can help with a proper name.

Thanks for the clarification Lynne, I'll do more homework on this place.

Mikeymisery, in most cases (99% of them) I would agree with you, however, after reading quite a bit about this place in particular, I lean heavily towards the "strapping people down" theory. I purposely read up on this place before entering this gallery.

If I ever get rich enough to own a mansion, this, and the matching stairs a couple frames back are SOOO going into it.

The location is watched very closely, and allot of the time the owners will not grant permission to entire the facilities ;)

Thing

Motts' caption of this one about made me fall out of my chair laughing, thanks Motts, that was much needed after the evil, cruel, nasty, demented clown = )

Tunnel Clown

Taubin

So not cool, I hate clowns. They frighten me greatly. I think I would shit myself if I saw this in a dark hallway. *shudder*

Angled Hall

Taubin

Not sure if Motts or anyone who has been in here still reads the older shots, but, were there doors on either end of this hallway? Just curious, it would be interesting to see if they were cut to match the hallway, or if they left the hall open ended.

These are more than likely used for washing hair, not hands ;)

Funhouse

Unless I'm completely wrong Jess, which is entirely possible, and in fact probable, it appears to be a longer than normal exposure time when the picture was taken. The red and blue light would be from Motts' head lamp, and some sort of indicator light?

I'm taking a wild stab in the dark, and as I stated, I'm not a photographer, so, I could be completely wrong, but, it reminds me of the pictures of cars on the highway with trailing brake lights and headlights. Above is the method used for doing them shots. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong = )

Minimalist

I'm with Motts on this one, I would go nuts in a minimalistic room like this... There would be only so many times I would be able to count the tiles. Like twice...

Fire Stations

Taubin

Am I the only one that finds it odd to have to "notify the office by telephone" if the place caught fire? I think the phone would be the last thing on my mind at that point.

Polaroid

It looks allot like washout from the photo getting wet, I could be completely wrong though, it's happened before... once... a long time ago... we don't talk about it anymore....

Urinal

Taubin

The "light fixture" or "soap dispenser" appears to be part of the plumbing, if you look at the top of the bedpan washer/urinal, it appears to be the same size as the hole in the wall. Copper robbers, or whoever, probably took the hook portion out of it.

; )

Peaked Windows

Taubin

Such a beautiful structure, reminds me of a castle. The peaked windows with the awesome crowning on the top of the structure, absolutely gorgeous. It's really sad to see such an amazing structure go to waste, however, in a strange way, it makes it more beautiful to have the ivy and such being slightly over grown around it. Just amazing. It's really too bad that they don't build them like this anymore. It truly is.

Impression Trays

Taubin

I used to work at Accubite, a very very large dental supply company. The owner of the company, Dr. Costello actually helped create a more modernized version of bite trays for use. They are plastic, with soft mesh instead of hard plastic all the way throughout. The cool thing was, when he was first experimenting with sizing, comfort, etc... we got to be voluntary guinea pigs = D

One of the first trays he had tried out, were way to big to fit comfortably in one of my co-workers mouths, and caused her discomfort, because of that, he resized the sidings of the trays. Really neat stuff to be a part of. Unfortunately, the company closed a few years ago, with no explanation. The workers got to work on a Monday, were handed a box, and told to get their stuff. It saddened me greatly, as Doc C was a great person, and very caring. Sorry for the rambling, seeing these brought back memories.

You can see a not-so-great pic of the Neo Trays he helped create here:

(they are the neon colored ones, I don't care to remember how many of them things I had to count by hand during inventory days)

Am I reading this correctly?

To me it states that the Maintenance division has only gone 82 days without an accident but the machine shop has been over 1880?

Door Number

Taubin

If I were to have seen this picture, alone, and not on this site, I would have sworn it was from a prison. It reminds me of the old prison numbers, just the way the yellow is such contrast to the blue. Maybe I'm alone on this one.

Seclusion

Taubin

I'm not a claustrophobic person at all, but, I think a room with a wall leading to a door like this would definitely make me that way at least a little bit.

It makes sense to have it for security, but, it seems very vertigo inducing to me.

Exit Window

Taubin

This may be an incredibly stupid question, but, was this on the first floor? I'm thinking it's not as the trees outside don't appear to be near trunk level.

Second part of "stupid question" if this is not on the ground level, was there at least a fire escape behind the windows?
