X-ray Room

Sketch

Just out of curiousity, is this angled for looks or for safety? Does it help deflect the x-rays just like in a microwave?

So, now it's exposed? Did it expose itself? (Please, there are ladies present!)

Office

Sketch

I have a mini-fridge, microwave, and yes even a toaster. The microwave can't really toast toast as well as a toaster can (hope that makes sense to you). Mainly, why not have a toaster in your office? They make great conversation pieces...

So Dr Sketch, I see you have a new toaster....

Peaches/AtO: I gave fair warning, it is definitely not a pretty picture. Not sure why anyone would want that picture on the front page of their website, but hey, it takes all types.
A.S.V.: It's not a beauty salon, but yes, they did have those in many institutions as well. They wanted the patients to feel normal. Please don't type in all caps, it gives me a headache.

Some things are better left unknown... If you really feel that you have to know, do a google search for sitz bath. When you reach a page with a large disturbing picture and the company name "Adam" on it, you're there... ~shudder~ And I had just gotten over all of this...

Body Carrier

Sketch

I have tomato cages that look just like that! :D
It looks like a prototype iron maiden, minus the spikes and the solid walls. Of course, since both are designed to form to the human body that makes sense. Ok, that was my weekly allowance for dark thoughts on here...

Clown Picture

Sketch

I love clowns: they're good to scare people with! :)
I know a few guys who do the clown thing for the shriners, and they are the kindest, gentlest people I've ever met. I can't imagine any of them doing anything to hurt even a fly. They just happen to look scary as hell when they have their makeup on...

PTM: Try here: http://www.lavaworld.c...stProducts.cfm?cat=8 It's a basic light bulb that you can get at any store, and I've never had a problem getting my old one out, but then again I have ~ahem~ "modified" mine quite a bit...

Just to throw in: most soap is made out of some kind of fatty acid (henceforth called "fat") mixed with lye and scents. So saying that there is fat in the jar is an understatement... Given time most soaps will decompose back into their components, just like a vinaigrette will only slower.

Children's Morgue

Sketch

If you live, you die. Sad but true. Sometimes people die when they are children, sometimes when they are old. Sad but true. The time between is what matters, so I don't see where death is offlimits for jokes, even when it's a child dying.

I can't stop laughing right now because of my computer's choice in music. It is randomly shuffling my music, and while writing this it played "Dead Babies" by Alice Cooper, followed by "Pet Cemetary" by The Ramones. Is it wrong to laugh? Probably, but I'm ok with being wrong...

Inbound Transmissions

Sketch

Yeah, you've got it right on how it worked. In the hole would have been a data collector that would have translated the analog signal into digital and passed it on to a computer. I can think of two reasons it didn't have a light: the light might have interfered with transmission, and if this was a secret at the time it was put up they wouldn't want anything to identify it. After it closed down they probably just forgot to put a light on it...

Not to be asking the magician to give away his secrets, but damn Motts, how did you get this shot? Is it a single image, or did you sew two together? It's just so... BIG!

Waist Shaper

Sketch

The theory behind reducing machines was that the friction from the belt would help to melt the fat. Of course, even if it did melt fat (it didn't), it was a flawed idea, because once melted the fat had to go somewhere, but it was sealed up in the body. People will try anything to lose weight... At least, anything that isn't eating right & exercising...

Netscape

Sketch

At the risk of sounding really old school, I remember the early days of the internet: writing custom scripts to open a modem connection, writing more scripts to dial a number, staying connected for two days solid to download the newest release of Slackware Linux, running Mosaic to see the hottest new thing on the net. Back when the net wasn't 75% porn! Wow, I miss those days...
ThrillKill: I don't run Windows, so I don't have this reliance on IE that everyone else has. I use Firefox 100% of the time, and never have a problem loading a site. Do you have any examples of ones that don't work?

Room with Fireplace

Sketch

Yeah, that's what I was going for, but I think you wrote it better. I don't see the reason why they said this was cruel. Seems to me like they went out of their way to do little things like this to help the patients feel normal...

Front Entrance

Sketch

It's called reasonable precautions. If someone were to get hurt inside, the owners could say they took reasonable precautions to prevent entry, including sealing the entrances, putting up a fence, and putting up this sign. They are covering their legal bases so that they don't have to pay a stupid injury lawsuit...

Room with Fireplace

Sketch

??? WTF??? Haven't you ever seen a multi-floor fireplace? It's not like you could jump in one to fall down and die... The only thing you could possibly do to hurt yourself is to get in when it's running, and I doubt that the staff would have let you do that. They had fireplaces to help make the patients feel normal, how is that cruel? I don't understand...

Stairs

Sketch

I don't know that they look mushy so much as they look well worn in. The depressions appear to be in roughly the same spot, like where someone would be walking. Of course, I'd still want a stick or something to test each stair before I went up them... :D
