Looking closely at the wall tiles, you can make out the fact that they were placed to frame openings.
I thought they were polished steel, though a closer look at the nearest one looks as though something's peeling off the opposite side.

I'm reminded now of a Ghosthunters

The only one I saw: I think they were in
Waverly. Shorts and halter tops, cheap
sneakers, nary an ineffective dust mask to
be seen...
With the likely presence of lead paint,
asbestos, pigeon dropping-dust and
what-all else, they didn't seem credible
to me!
