Off the Balcony

STL girl

I have a feeling this place just might be durned creepier than Waverly Hills...

Lights On

STL girl

It's so...odd...how these places are unique, yet the interiors can very much resemble each other. I went on a weekend trip out to Louieville, and on the Waverly tour, our camera flashes lit up the otherwise pitch dark rooms , making the photos look as if there were fluorescent lights glaring off the dull gray and white paint. (it was SO hot that night, we were hoping for cold spots!)

Turret Eave

The cookie-cutter condos of the present are a sad statement in comparison. A true Victorian building was never ordinary, even painted gingerbread trim adds so much personality.

That is some FASCINATING decorative detail!

Concrete Stairs

STL girl

I got the "1920s era high school" vibe too.

Rubber Room

STL girl

Weird, how "padded room" type places are so much a stereotype of psychiatric facilities, yet we have to go looking for actual photo evidence.

Gurney Ward

STL girl

Yeeyuckk, the paint color is hideous!!

Dome

STL girl

Permette, hmm...well, it must have been the best way to dry those bubble-cut styles, if not beehives.

Hydrotherapy Room

STL girl

That looks like a Vichy(soisse) shower at a spa.

Inside

STL girl

must have practically needed a carbon arc system.

Stainless

Rusted bed frames are much creepier.

More hotels!

Lounge

STL girl

A sunny chair that once enjoyed the roof,
now relegated to the dregs of the lowest level.

Fallen

STL girl

I wonder if some architect was such a history buff...can't imagine a scenic NY health spa being besieged.

Opposition

STL girl

if there was "gingerbread" woodwork in all those doors like screen doors on Victorian houses, that would have been spectacular!

Shooting

(wonders how/ why the doors were styled)

Tower

STL girl

(Renaissance womens' costume shelf-bra?)
SOMEBODY needs to make another trip here for the interior, seeing as he lives in NY!!

push-button light switch-1930s or so, have a few at my house.

Drip

STL girl

I'd be staring at the top of the wall nonstop to get away from the pink or green.

Emergent

STL girl

We don't see patterned tile like that too often, it's usually just a checkerboard.

Wall

STL girl

Yup, reminds me of myself and every other kid who went to camp of some sort in Atwood Park...goofing around checking out the remains of the Camp Grant bunkers shrouded in the trees.

The Walk

STL girl

It might be mistaken for a sidewalk through the trees-but it's no ordinary sidewalk!!

Tired

STL girl

There's city parkland in the woods in the area of our airport. (south end) The park district runs week-long overnight camp sessions in the summer and I got to go for a few days on a grade school mini camp. Anyhoo, the park gets closed every so often for ammo sweeps-the place used to be our WWII training camp. On the night hikes, we got to go over to the old bunkers back in the trees. (another cool thing-a geology walk along the river bluffs to find rocks with fossils, which I did.)

Tunnel From Above

STL girl

Naturally, the woods have grown up and grabbed the place.
