That looks very... slimy and slippery. I think we have a classic case of bucket fail going on here.

I wonder why they tried so hard to keep everyone out of this one building. The rest of the property was just left to crumble.

This strikes me as more of a "salmon" pink than a "Pepto" pink.

They had some wildly vivid colors in this place, back in the day.

I like the change in perspective.... you know the Christmas tree in the previous shot is small, but it's the the center-point of the picture. Then you see this one, zoomed way out so you can just barely see the little bitty tree on the stage. Gives you an idea of both the immensity of the theater and the smallness of the tree.

Cool, Pegasus! Thank you! I'd always heard blue had a calming effect... I painted my bedroom blue in a house I lived in once, to try and combat insomnia. Didn't work... but it was a nice color, anyway.

Is this an old bed frame?

Wow... I wonder if this woman had been in there for years, just building up a tolerance for the psycho-therapeutic drugs listed here, until her system was so used to them all that she needed so much in a single day. This is a monstrous combination, one which would knock most of us out for days. Then shock treatment on top of it... sheesh!

Egads, I love this picture.

Definitely not stolen goods. No one would steal those, as they have almost no resale value in today's market. (Someone mentioned donating them to unfortunate families, and I must note that I just recently got an apartment through VA housing assistance. I had no furniture - AT ALL - and was given an entire houseful of goods that were all donated. Among those things was a TV that looks *exactly* like these. Good call on the donation idea!)

Combined with the stacked mattresses in back, and the fact that this is an empty building on a partially-active campus, I'd have to say it's probably storage. They're likely moving old TVs out and replacing them with new sets, as well as rotating the mattresses out of circulation for recycling or cleaning. Stands to reason they'd need someplace to store it all until arrangements are made - what better place than an unused building on the property?

For those who don't, Gordon's got the way of it. There's no room in the system for the people who can't pay. Since we don't do long-term psychiatric inpatient rehab anymore, it's "here's the meds, hope you can stay on them" and schedule a checkup in 3-6 months.

That's just reality. And it's partly why we have so many cool galleries on Opacity. Just sayin.

The salvage value of this thing must be way up there. Why they leave these things to just rot away is beyond me.

I agree, Motts. The tile color and anachronistic kitchen fixtures makes me believe it may have been some sort of medical area originally, like a surgical suite or laboratory. More like surgery, though - that godawful color reminds me of Phillip's Milk of Magnesia and operating rooms.

That's what the whole place would look like if the grounds weren't maintained. Muckity-muck!!!

Wow. What a contrast!!! Some parts of the building look like they were just locked up last week, and here it looks like the ceiling vomited decay onto the floor. Awesome!

Wow. This is like, an OSHA nightmare. You do NOT want to lose your step. Hot molten metal in a rushing, open-sided river streaming across the floor... not a job for the faint-of-heart.

The glasses they gave me in Air Force basic training looked a lot like that, except the lenses were thicker.

This is quite a find!! That's what I love about you, Motts - you don't miss the details. So many people would have overlooked this small, seemingly inconsequential memento of the departed humanity in this gigantic structure. Not only did you find it, but you saw the photogenic potential as well.

This sign would have been appropriate on my husband's bedroom door. WHEW!
