It seems so inviting, like you can barely hear a voice whispering, "Come on in and have a look around. We don't bite..."

Thanks for the info, FB Jim. Such data breathes life into these old hunks of rusted steel.

That large rounded shape under the bridge is the steam engine boiler, it's so huge compared to the rest of this little tugboat.

There is a machine shop in our town that displays a diesel engine crankshaft out front that is about 20 feet long.

This is an absolutely incredible view of the dessicated guts of an old tanker. I love it!

Piping

We have skeeters here in Texas that I swear have air force decals on their wings! For some reason they don't bother my wife, but they flock to me like I'm the only food source for miles around. I hate them. Love the photo, though ;-)

This gallery could be used as the segment for one of those creepy video games like Silent Hill or Resident Evil. Clean, but juuuust decayed enough to give me a major case of the boo-boo jeebies!

Beautiful equipment! One of my first jobs was in a hospital kitchen; preparing plates, dishwashing, etc. We had a number of mixers & cookers that looked just like these.

It is indeed beautiful, I love that "just left" appearance that is too often destroyed by mindless graffiti.

Salmonella ~ Just save the photo in your computer, then use a basic photo program to change it to Black & White. I use the Jasc Paint Shop program, it's pretty basic but does the job nicely. My wife has Photoshop 10 and does some amazing stuff with photos. It's her hobby :o)

Who would've thought that decay & rot could have such gorgeous coloring! Looks like the roof needs a wee bit of patchwork. Maybe a tarp.

I have to agree - I came in with a burning curiosity regarding abandoned places, but I'm gaining a marvelous insight to the workings of both the human mind and our society. Kudos to Motts, and to those of you who have added so much to these photos with your wonderfully enlightening comments!

Press

Ouroboris

I work in a print shop in Bryan TX, running a 25 year-old Heidleburg Offset Press. I'd love to get my hands on it and nurse it back to health 8^) A beautiful old antique like this would make a sweet addition to our collection of ancient presses.
