A Cold Estate

Nauseous

I am intrigured by this house and have been trying to figure out what it was used for. Apparently, eight buildings were erected in 1909-11. Until the 1920's these buildings plus a powerhouse, staff house, surgical pavilion, an administration building and old nurses home made up the hospital. In the 70's, four of the original eight ward buildings were demolished for a new infirmary. Perhaps this house was the staff house or the old nurses home?

Nurses Station

I'm so jealous. I love to see places that are still intact with no graffiti. If the floor was cleaned up, you'd never know it wasn't in use.

Is that an electric cord or a hose dangling? I keep thinking I see prongs.

I love these types of pictures. It captures the loneliness of the building. Beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.

Tiny Stairwell

Nauseous

More than likely, that was the case. The back stairways are usually found close to the kitchen for obvious reasons.

The Mansion

Nauseous

It's a shame that such a beautiful structure was left to waste away.

Collapse

Nauseous

The mansion was demolished in early May '05. The town and village bought the property for $1.2 million and plan to build a park in three phases. Supposedly, the mansion foundation will be part of a memorial garden wall.

The Mansion

Nauseous

The third floor of the central wing was used as a boys' dormitory. The body was found face-down on the pavement behind the school dormitory.
