We raise turkeys, so I can imagine the smell there.

I would rather renovate a building than have it completely fall down or get torn down.

Maybe it's from people that were working there on shift work. The door is locked so whoever is inside with them cannot get out. When the person B comes in the morning to relieve them, the person A will let the police know that somebody is still in there. Just a thought.
