Sentinals

Mike

I love this shot. The mix of total beauty and total decay is staggering.

From this angle, it looks like there are only a couple of boards holding the dormers up.

Steeple

Mike

I agree. Not to upset anyone (honest), but while I don't feel every old hospital should be restored to its former glory, there are some sites like this one (and some hospitals) that were of such beauty it is a shame to lose them.

Projector in There Somewhere

Mike

Not much left of that! It's like no matter what you take into the building it ages and decays at a rate to catch up to the rest of the building.

Violet Shadows

Mike

What a great day. I was reviewing some older galleries and hit the main page before heading out and Mott's had posted another gallery. I love "new gallery days"!

Mosaic

That is just detail you never see in newer buildings. Such a shame.

Mike

I was in there last week. Its falling apart inside. Hope they sort it out soon.

Classroom Light

1st floor were the Science class-rooms and band room. In mid-80's Bro. Jim Mara had us all raise small pets (snakes, Guinea Pigs, etc). There was a really old priest named Fr. Moskal (Earth Science) who would pour Mercury (highly toxic) out of a bottle and have us hold it in our hands. To demonstrate a circuit he had us all join hands with one person holding the gas valve on a lab table. He would then stick his own finger in an electrical outlet.

Door to Backstage

Mike

Back behind the stage there used to be a 35MM Projection room. I remember showing "Burnt Offerings" which scared the crap out of everyone. But we all got a laugh out of the butler from same movie addressing the younger son as, "Master Bates".

Curtain Thing

Mike

I think that the class of '81 was probably the last to use 3rd floor as a dormitory. Class of '80 spent about 6 months on the 3rd floor. After that, enrollment was such that everyone fit in the 2nd floor roomettes (4 persons to a room).

Stairwell Straight Down

Mike

I spent many a work period sweeping and waxing those stairs. From 3rd floor all the way down to basement.

Dorm Window

Mike

I lived in last room on right in 1979. Really sad to see how such an amazing campus so quickly became ruins.

Salmon Building

Mike

The property really is as beautiful as a lot of people think. However, many of the buildings are extremely unsafe. [Information edited out per site policy - Admin.]

Complementary

Mike

Were the walls making up that hall original? It almost looks like they were added to split a larger room. Great shot. The darkenss of the floor and window trim almost makes it look fire damaged.

Mike

Ahhhh, time to close the door and enjoy a new gallery. Thanks Motts!

Mike

Okay, I'll say it. "Where is the soap dispenser?"

Coil

Mike

Wow! The weight of all that cable must be tremendous. When this building finally comes down, it's going to be a sight.

Shelf Life

Mike

It's amazing how little this has been touched over the years. In the US, this would have all been destroyed by vandals already.

Compartments

Mike

Looks a lot like where a miner would place a tag when they checked out a piece of equipment and were going into the mine. That way the company had a set record of who was underground if something happened.

The Town From Above

Mike

From the more lush/green shots you would never think this is so close to town.
