Stairs To Nowhere

Mike

There was once a door there but the police at the time had it shut by them putting stones over it because kids were sneaking in at night to mess around with the paitents

Patient Belongings

Mike

I saw this pic years ago and came back for a revisit. I too originally though this was such a sad pic and having read eldokid's comment I have changed my mind. The sadness goes to show how much value we place on things. We are not our things. Just think of how much crap we have that isn't even important to us let alone someone trying to retain a keepsake for memory. I know I have a lot... Even with a diary, there is could be a lot of interesting things in there for your family, but would you have written most of it if you ever thought someone else would read it? Sometimes it is best for things to be left alone and just keep the memories of others in our heads.

Depth

climbing up and down a straight vertical ladder is surprisingly difficult and tiring.

Motts - What is the size perspective here? It looks several stories tall, but I can't get a good feel for the full scope. Amazing pictures though as always.

The ceiling and floor give the effect of flying towards the black arch.

Projectors

There's a pair just like this, modified for a 2000W Xenon lamp, still operating in The Historic Artcraft Theatre in Franklin, Indiana.

it looks like little kiddie boats should be floating down. Just needs some music and animatronics on the sides.

It looks like the yellow was painted over the original marble on the walls.

Kitchen

Mike

While it would have been a lot of work to put those tiles up there the difference between this place and most of the open buildings on this site is the ceiling is still intact here. It looks perfect instead of being a layer of mush on the floor. Nobody builds to last anymore...

Autoguy - I had that same thought looking at this set. It would have all been destroyed here in the states.

The light makes it look like it would be a commonly visited place, but everything about it looks so deserted. Wonderful.

Just went down there for the first time. It's awesome. I also just finished a map of the Rochester Subway. It's a view of how it might have looked in 2008 if it were still around. It's based on proposed lines. Shows where new subway stops may have been added. Also has an article explaining the history of the subway... http://www.rochestersu...bway_poster_2008.php

Baby Bottles

Mike

The nerve of the staff at this place to actually feed the babies. Grrrrrr... (I am shaking my fist in a very sarcastic manner).
You would find the same thing at any hospital today, although I hope it would be a little cleaner and wouldn't have Mr. Motts cool lighting!
