The Tower

Mike Miller

I'm the treasurer of the CTRC and we are a non-profit group who owns the building and maintains it. We are going to be celebrating our 10th anniversary next year. We run events monthly during the late spring to early fall. Check www.buffalocentralterminal.org for details.

PS - It was designed by Alfred Fellheimer (co-architect of Grand Central) and Steward Wagner.

The Terminal

The city has never been responsible for the terminal. It has always been in the hands of private owners. The first owner, New York Central Railroad, stopped maintaining the building decades ago, so things like the flat roofs were leaking as early as the late 60's. Subsequent owners were even less responsible, however well intended they may have been at first. It wasn't until the CTRC purchase the building in 1997, that true maintenance and preservation efforts began. Since then, the flat roofs and end caps have been fixed, 300 tons of debris has been removed and over 4,000 broken windows have been sealed. The building is dry and constantly stabliziing. Over $1 million has been invested to date, and the efforts continue.

Crown

It's a long walk up 15 flights of stairs! The balcony floor has 6 separate doors that lead to individual balconies. The view is spectacular! You can always see Niagara Falls and sometimes Toronto on a clear day.

The building is locked and alarmed and intruders will be prosecuted. See www.buffalocentralterminal.org for information on our 2006 event schedule. Unfortunately, the tower is off limits, but the concourse is reason enough to come.
