Well.........today i took those columns home, bought them........they are 27.8 ft tall and weigh appr. 8000 lbs each! They are simply wonderful!
And the curved railing (which I also bought has a spiral staircase going under the jail, lots of little rooms down there.

This is a carbon arc lamphouse that produces a very intense light and some combustion byproducts as it operates. The light is produced by an electrical arc plasma between 2 carbon rods simular to arc welding rods, but formulated for maximum production of pure, white light. The exhaust stack pulls the ash and heat from the burning carbons out of the lamphouse with an exaust fan mounted above the ceiling. This is a "Peerless Magnarc" lamphouse from the early 1920's, noted for it's elegant industrial art deco design. It is equivalent to only 3 to 4 horsepower.

btw: we never went inside a building, we just drove around on the grounds. my great uncle Larry Henegar died on those grounds so thats prolly why i was so drawn to it.

I live in NC and i recently took a trip up to Glenn Dale MD. We drove by the hospital and couldn't resist going on the grounds. we didn't go inside but the grounds are considerably more eerie during daylight (when we drove in) Im suprised we didnt get caught driving in a restricted area in a white suburban in the middle of the day. the pictures i got are incredible and now i cant stop reading about it.

Ah, the old days with the 20 minute "double reelers". (22minutes, 13.33 seconds to be exact) Film used to be shipped (and still is) on 2000 foot reels. (on 1000 foot reels from the film company, combined at the film exchange) I haven't worked as a projectionist since the '70s, but I remember working in a state hospital, showing the weekly movie for the residents. I think I was paid $30 for my services.

It's actually quite creepy to look back out at the entrance from the inside. Makes you feel trapped because it would take roughly 10 minutes to get out if you had to.

My friends and I were on that very roof at night. It was actually not cloudy at all. We we're resting their for a minute until my friend recieved a voice mail. While he was listening to it, we heard screams towards 93. Then, my other friend and I were looking at building 93 and saw a vague image of a girl jumping off the roof.

He told us to get out right away and wouldn't tell us why. We left, and his voicemail didn't tell him what number it came from, and was just a conversation between 3 people asking 'how to get up there' and eventually lead to screaming.

The only time something paranormal happened there. It was really messed up.

Such a good photo -regretable that everything in the picture from being a piece of history is now history- those wings have been torn down....

i had the oppertunity to walk the grounds of Pilgram state, been in and out of some of the building, seen alot of things worth talking about. i also seen an un marked grave yard,been in the tunnels underground, i could write a book with all the stories,a matter of fact a small time producer from south hampton made a B-movie around some of the stories it was aired on the IFC channle any one who wants some more info let me know
