Dust

Looks like one of those 1980's laser-plane effects.

Nice. I can see how the lighting situation was a nightmare.

I wouldn't think it would be Betadine. I think Motts would be able to find that source pretty quickly. I'd think it would be some type of rust in suspension. Possibly leaking stagnant rusty water in the pipes mixing with a tile or wallpaper adhesive?

My first thought was "bars"

Cotton Balls

I think the cribs in this place are more for people who are giving birth at the facility. Just as STDs run rampant through Senior Living Communities, even the "mentally disabled" would more than likely get it on given the chance.

Drab

My grandma had a side table like that in her living room. It's a floor lamp with a table halfway up the post. This one is missing the shade, obviously.
I'm curious about the light bulb, though. I've never ever seen a light bulb with anything other than the typical bulb shape. So it begs the question- Did that bulb not burn out for 50 years?

I've seen those same fixtures on eBay for $100's. I'm struck at this location's lack of vandalism. Really nice for a change.

Disemboweled

With the clothes & hangers on the floor, the drapes, the chair... It's like somebody just left his room one day and never returned. Only a movie set could compare.

Paint over tiles? Or just something very odd?

Thanks, man. Very nice.

Stone

Talk about irony... When this was built, Detroit was all steam and progress and bountiful like the fruit carved into the facade. Now, Detroit is rotting.

Good for the explorers to put the items on display instead of hoarding or reselling.

Collection

The ceramic bowl looks like it's got concrete in it b/c ceramic is a porous material. It soaks up moisture from the floor and it peels the glaze off from the inside.

Throne

Mark 5:9

It's a squatter. One foot on each block. Common in older ex-Soviet places.

Were these hand written/illustrated or where these printed charts?

How big were the cubes? It's hard to get a scale from the image.

Samples

Mark 5:9

Small bits of tissue are preserved in paraffin for later use. I recently heard a segment on NPR where a guy determined his dad was not his biological father by using a 30 year old paraffin sample long after the father's death.

Creepy. Very nice & creepy.

Secret Storage

I might be too fraidy cat to go further, with possible residual radioactivity and all. Motts, you might want to have your "boys" checked out.

I don't think anyone in good conscience could chip it away just to satisfy curiosity. Just let time work it out.
