Its fascinating to see all these abandoned hospitals. I live in Australia and theres no way they'd have a psych hospital and not have it operating or being renovated for patients!

The Graveyard

Not like Harrisburg, they've got the patients cremated in what can only be described as old paint cans, lined in an office

This is amazing! As someone who's been in a psych hospital, its weird to think they plastered stuff like this up. They don't do that now, well not as bluntly.

It is so sad to think how the mentally ill were treated way back, and how the disabled have come so far thanks to federal and state funding. They have group homes, and day programs where a lot of disabled folks get out into the community, and work jobs. Some have staffing, and some are independent enough to be there themselves. Unfortunately, now through hard times the federal gov. is making all kinds of cuts in programs, and cutting programs by massive amounts, where their actually going to be literally kicking some of these poor souls out of the programs that they fought so long and hard to get. The question is where will they go to live? Let's hope not back to something like this again.

At first glance, at least to me, I thought it was a gym. But then glancing at it somemore, with the curtains up on the windows,it probably was some kind of a ballroom. t looks like it has a hardwood floor

you would think that with all the wheel chairs ,and geri chairs that they have in tons of pics, why would they have a staircase like this? Who would be able to climb them?

In the 50's and 60's Hydrotherapy was also used as a form of punishment or control, along with 'wet sheet wraps' . It wouldn't be surprising that there would be tubs like this on each floor - they'd be an ever present reminder of what would happen if one couldn't control themselves.
