nvusofmotts, you'd be stunned at how many abandoned places there are tucked away everywhere. There's probably a ton near you, and you've just never noticed them before. That's have the fun of the whole thing, finding all of these places that are essentially hidden in plain sight much of the time.

The amount of graffiti in this place is pretty depressing though.

You would think the first rule of hospital interior decorating would be, "Never use a blood red colour anywhere, ever."

The thing that strikes me odd about the "observations" on the chalkboard and the key on previous pictures where someone mentioned it might be a key for handcuffs. Were the people that were in this room alive at some point? Have I been watching too many scary movies?

I think I'm going to make it my primary life goal to never have to live in a building that requires bars on the windows. Regardless of whether they are keeping me in, or something else out. :-/

I love winter. Photographs like this make up a huge percentage of my reasons why.

The reddish tower building with the HOTEL STERLING sign and the connecting buildings were demolished, but the original building you see in the foreground is alive and well. What happened was, the original building was doing so well that someone opened the tower building as a seperate hotel. The owners of the original Hotel Sterling bought them out and built buildings connecting the two buildings. Alas, the tower building and all those connecting buildings got demolished. I'm still pretty angry about that. :-(

Yeah, this is on top of the building. I have no idea what's housed within. Probably all the stuff required to run the elevators.

I don't know why everyone keeps saying this place has been leveled. They demolished the tower building connected to it, much to my annoyance, but this building here is still there.

No matter how many times I see these cemeteries like this, it still sickens me to see a human life reduced to an anonymous number.

It might have been said in previous comments, but I'm adding it again at the end just to reinforce the point. There was some evidence that schizophrenia was the result of an infection of the brain. Even now there's some speculation that some sort of physical disease may lead to, if not outright cause, some psychotic disabilities. Therefore, it's not altogether outside the realm of acceptable science to take blood fluids from mentally ill psychotics and inject them into healthy animals to see if any infection is spread such that some basic confirmation could be made that diseases like schizophrenia might be caused by a viral, or bacterial, infection which would very likely be present to some degree in the constituent fluids of the blood.

DoomHamster is correct. The plug was used for lighting and anything else that required electricity. Although it was not an altar, our class did hold an outdoor mass here numerous times. We used it for playing music (record player if anyone remembers what one of those are) during the mass.
