I finally gave in regarding this shot. I'd been using one of your wonderful shots of one of my fav subjects in Danvers State Hospital as my desktop wallpaper for the longest time & was loath to give it up.
But, I could resist this one's stark beauty & atmosphere no longer. Many thanks Motts for sharing your visions with us.

Yes Grace!
Nice analogy that had'nt occured to me yet while enjoying these photos. To me, they really bring to mind THE OUTSIDER , THE SHUNNED HOUSE & but of course, THE TOMB.

I don't know, as much as I might be tempted, IMO any sort of forced entry would be wrong. That just crosses the line between respectful observation & the recording of what one see's to share with others to interference.
I, myself, have just a wee bit more of a relaxed interpretation of the "do no harm, take nothing & leave nothing behind" creedo than does our beloved Motts, but on this issue I definitely concur with him.
Now, were I to have seen a coffin or sarcophagus in a state of such disrepair that one could peek into without really disturbing anything, I'd have done so. But, that's it.

Ah, wonderfully moody.
This one evolks a nostalgic sense of one of those old Mexican vampire films that I used to watch with my parents every Friday night on our local Fright Night Late Show like THE WORLD OF VAMPIRES, the NOSTRADAMUS series & of course, THE VAMPIRE'S COFFIN.
They were filmed on micro-budgets & didn't have the best acting performances or directing, but DAMN did they make up for it in atmosphere. Just like this shot does...

Awesome.
Motts, once again, I must acknowledge how blessed you are with an eye for this sort of thing. Great work!
This one, to me, appears like something straight out of a late '50s - early '60s Hammer film. I love it.
It also brings to mind the vampire Barlow's coffin from Tobe Hooper's 1979 version of 'SALEM'S LOT.

Motts, your eye & talent never ceases to astonish. As always, thanks for sharing.

Now, what this image instantly reminded me of was the imagry captured by Freddie Francis in all those wonderful old Hammer films.

Wow.
My initial reaction to this shot was that someone was VERY overzealous in roping off a reserved section & used barbed wire!

Anyhow, this SO fondly reminds me of all the old B&W monster/sci fi movies I grew up watching as a kid in the late '60s - '70s.

ARRRGH!
This is really trashed now?
That's a shame. And people wonder why no directions are given...
Not that I want to believe that this sites regs would do damage. I don't. But, if only everyone understood the "do no damage.Take nothing. Leave nothing" approach...

Sorry ladies & mates, but I've simply GOT to reply to Keith's use of the term "retard" & his assertion that a good portion of "them" actually "choose to be that way"...
What a silly load of rubbish!
While there are,of course, many who become intellectually disabled as the result of accidents ( some of whom probably WERE at fault due to some form of negligence ), using these unfortunates as an excuse to rationalize the continued use of an offensive term is quite ignorant.
While the word "retard" was, indeed, legitimate medical terminology for those with such disabilities, it has become an insensitive, offensive one now due to it's misuse.
Language is NOT a static thing. It constantly evolves & ( as an earlier post's author so astutely pointed out ) just as one no longer ( or shouldn't anyhow... ) uses certain racial descriptions that were once considered the norm, but which are now inappropriate & offensive ( ie "coloured" for those of African decent or "oriental" for those of Asian ), it is simply rude to continue to describe those born with developmental & mental - learning disabilities as "retards".

Ah, but Max, what about the staff?
A good portion of it must have been male... LOL

Of course, they'd have had to have been REALLY inventive with their excuses as to why they were always standing around in the hallways on top of stools in the middle of the night.

I have to go with the SESSION 9 vibe over THE SHINING 'cause everything is so well lit in Kubrick's film. Still creepy as hell & a definite classic, but well lit.
As for the TV redux, it has it's upside. But, I do prefer thelocation & atmosphere of the '80 film to the TV version's Stanley Hotel which was actually the real location of King's novel. Art tops reality in this case.
