Do you guys read the other picture comments??? In other pictures he tells you that it's him (or sometimes someone else) holding a light to get the photo!!! [See Snake photo in this album...]

Binky you're right, we have one in the outside closet where I work now. The yellow is the blower and it inflates the red and yellow thing on the floor :) Kudos!!

I live maybe 30 to 40 minutes away from The Ladd School. Friends of mine have been there and they say it's super scary. But I really want to visit here this coming spring. It's cool that this is so close to my house. I live in East Providence, RI.

I visited this place around 2001. It was something teens in the area did when I was in Highschool. I remember it so vividly and have not seen the inside again untill looking at these photos. I remember lots of documents and lots more pictures on the walls. You have captured what it really feels like in there. Creepy...

Must be, CAS. I'd say it was with the hope that Shell might learn something... but that'd be wrong, considering "criticize" is still spelled wrong.... 5 months later. O_o

::waves:: Hi Motts! I stumbled upon your site about a month ago, and this will be my first posted comment. I have lived in San Diego, CA my entire life and... ancient (abandoned) buildings such as these are non-existent around here. I have ALWAYS been extremely intrigued by them, but never, ever have I seen such an AWESOME collection of photographs. I couldn't decide which one I wanted to post my comment under! heh. I'm going through every single gallery you have, reading every tidbit of history you post, and all the comments... errr... all the comments that don't give me a headache. O_o
Lynne's are my favorite, she's so knowledgeable... and snarky! I love it.
And, you bet your ass I have one of your wallpapers up on my computer here at work. Dual monitors - double the pleasure! :)
I just had to finally say something about how incredible your site and all of your pictures are.
Thanks!

Hey guys. I have worked for HVDDSO aka Letchworth for 7years now. I work in a group home in Orange Cty. My father has over 30 years with DDSO and my mom just about the same. I used to visit when I was young but I never saw anything creepy or scary. These people did live in horrendous conditions in the 70's but things changed dramatically through the 80's. I love my job and taking care of these guys. Group homes are much better than the village as the guys live a normal life and do normal things like we all do. Thanks and take care.

What great memories of RP. Those pics of how the park now stands are so depressing. Other than taking atleast an hour and 1/2 there is no amusement parks around here now. You now have your choice of Six Flags, Canobie, Lake Compounce, etc. All big $$ admissions. The days of my parents packing us kids up and pending the day at RP. During the hot days of the summer, you would stand at the fence of the flume, get soaked from one of the logs coming down, then get on a ride like the Enterprise or the Musik Express. Oh the days!! Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

The B&Ws through the fog really give a sense of what has become of the original park. It breaks my heart to know I can't take my own children there. We would go at least once a year. Enchanted Forest was the most amazing, magical place for us. I loved the Ali Baba ride, Sleeping Beauty's castle, the Alice in Wonderland ride/attraction, the safari ride...I loved everything about the place!

I'm so glad to see the farm is restoring everything it can, but I still wish I could take my own kids.

Is it possible for anyone to walk around the old place, or is that a problem? We have family in Northern Virginia, and I think a day trip to the farm is reasonable, but I was wondering if we could see the old park as well.

Thank you so much for the beautiful, eerie pictures that remind me of another time in my life. I am sharing this link!

These pictures bring back so many memories for me. I LOVED the slide on Mt. Vesuvius. We used to bring waxed paper so we could go faster down the long, HOT, metal slide.

And fishing in Tom Sawyer's pond! They'd give you a fishing pole with corn or something on it, and I think you could fish untnil you caught one of the little fish. Catch & release of course, but it was fun!
