My mother went to Bennett, and and her older cousin taught dance and drama there. They both loved Bennett very much. My great-uncle endowed Gage Hall. Seeing these beautiful but poignant photographs reminds me of so many of the stories I heard when I was growing up. Once, after I taken a much needed bath in a similarly wonderfully deep claw-footed bathtub, Mama noticed that I had left a dirty ring in the tub. First she scolded me, and then told me how mortified she had been, as a new student at Bennett ,when after leaving a similar ring in the bathtub, the "old" girl who came to use the tub next said to her "..and whom, pray tell , was your ladies maid last year???!!!
