All those pegs on the wall were probably the faucets and soap dispensers at one time...

Concrete Stairs

EricaM

Yeah the entire door is covered with mesh... perhaps to keep violent patients from wandering and trying to get in... thats how it is where I work anyway..

Tinted Blue

EricaM

Ooohh Alex that is indeed cobalt blue. I love it. It relaxes me.

Half

EricaM

I think I wrote this in a previous gallery... being an ex patient of a psychiatric ward.. the mesh is very depressing to look at and see when all you want to do is be at home..

Patterned

EricaM

Perhaps if I never had dabbled into psychotic drugs this room would be fine... but. Damn. If I had to be holed up in there the walls would be swimming like ocean waves. Wish I could enhance the photo to actually see the pattern...

"There were no broken windows, graffiti, or any sign that people were getting inside."

Opened to the World

Can't believe such overgrown tracks are still in use... then again a few measly weeds wont stop a solid steel train.

Lost

EricaM

This is awesome, right across the street from Utica State Hosp.... my grandma worked her entire life, and grew up in a house almost 300 years old... I got about 15 ward lock/skeleton keys from her house. ..very neat find

Tendrils

EricaM

Reminds me of Rockland.. everything there is/was covered in overgrowth of vines..

Glass

EricaM

Um... aside from the last sarcastic?/dumbass comment.. this seems like it was once a pretty awesome walkway, sunny.. etc. I would hang out here and draw or paint.

Passage

This is a pretty incredible photo. I can only imagine what it would've been like to stare down and walk through that hallway.

Warning

EricaM

It would be helpful if the person were suffering substance abuse related problems. Being over-looked without escape while going through withdrawl. I've been there, done that. Trust me, it's useful.. especially when someones life counts on it.

Falling Lights

However much I dislike inhaling mercury, I always dig the way the falling lights look in photos.. kinda like the building is crying.

EricaM

Does this have to do with the Gennie that I learned about in Human Development in college? She's pretty famous... shit I better read more into this before commenting.

Secure

The paint peels because there is no regulated temperature any longer...oil paint reacts with oxygen in the air..oil paint never stops curing & as it ages it continues to oxidize therefore becoming more brittle and typically the resins in latex paint are too big to seep into anything ... i guess in my stupid college classes jargon, no paint is permanent . OH GOD, i still remember the=formular for a redox reaction = c6h12o6 + 6o2 = 6co2 + 6h2o. Motts, im a dork.

Moss Hall

EricaM

Nah, jackieb, green mold isn't typically toxic. If the walls were covered in BLACK mold, then THAT would be cause for concern.

EricaM

Oh yeah and Jason, One of the first Psychiatric hospitals in america was in the city I grew up in, and In the basement the fallout shelter signs were on every corner and in perfect condition. I actually still own one I found laying in the dirt.
