The cases there were many and each had a story to them. The patients there ranged from drunks peeled off the streets to heirs to fortunes. Despite the stories every one was an individual there, not just a number. My dad took me up there many times. He worked there, as did I many years onward.

At one time there was a morgue. It was in the Bonner building. Once they contracted the funerals out., the morgue was tuned into the snack bar. There may have been a morgue in the Kirkbride I don't know it was prior to 1948 when my dad started there. Funerals there were pretty primitive early, on plain wood box and sheets for a shroud . Kinda done on the cheap you might say

If the standards there were comparable to the typical medical care facilities for work houses in the late 19th century, 30 bodies could pile up in jig time. Health care for the poor in 19th century Britain was nearly non existant. The infirmaries existed to keep epidemics from spreading in the workhouse, and treat residents who were injured, so they could work.. Jack London wrote about the time he spent in a London workhouse. He intended to spen a month amongst the poor , he lasted less than a week. A british workhouse would make the worst mental hospital/state school in the US look like a Spa.

The trim is green because the trim is/was copper. It turns green as it ages

Paranormal: Those are the hand cranks for a hospital bed. The old ones worked with 2 handcranks. Called a Gatch bed, probably named after the inventor
