Bonner Medical

Johanna, Were youa patient of the Department of Youth Services? They had the only teen ward there at Danvers. We rarely had anyone under the age of 18 on the DMH wards. It would have been called Centerpoint. It was located on several floors during my time there I-3, B-3, in the Kirkbride., and 6 East & West in the Bonner building. DYS would be the place to start if you are looking for info about your records. If you were by chance on one of the DMH wards DMH has an Office of Consumer and Ex-patient Relations, they are a good place to start. If they can't directly help they do have a lot of resources to refer you to. Be persistent.

Jenny Wade was the only civilian at Gettysburg killed. Many other civilians were killed in raids by conferderate irregulars, even close to the Canadian border

Chair

Big Ed

The place with the chair in it has been demolished. The chair itself has been appropriated by an enterprisng urbexer, who doesn't mind having an old , torn, probably pissed ion chair around, just because it was in a movie.

"1964 like it reads on the Thompson Mental Health Center greeting page...I could be wrong, I'd just blame Motts then."

This will teach me to be more observant when posting purely in the comments section. I was referring to somewhere else. Maybe I'll actually look. My dumb ass got my Mental health places mixed.

Yes the vast majority of the tortured souls who lived with in the grimness that was Danvers State Hospital, left under their own power, eventually. Things changed, laws changed, medication changed, treatment changed, from the day DSH opened to the day it closed forever, every thing changed. Whether things improved, I leave others to decide for themselves. (IMHO they did)

It is in the section of the building that was saved. It was gutted, but maybe some of the wood work exists still elsewhere.

Tin Ceilings

Danvers during the day time, with the windows unboarded, the shades up and curtains back was not all that grim a place to be. That particular hallway at night with only the nightlights on was a spooky place to be. I never had any paranormal experiences there, but others did. Motts photo is one that lends it the haunted look. It wasn't that bad. We kept the lights on in most of the floors without patients on them due to the fact there was quite a bit of movement by staff during the night.. Mott's photos lend the place a dignity that it never really aspired to in the last 50 years. By the time I worked there the glory days of DSH were long past. They were long past when my father started working there in 1948

What the mesh didn't stop was people throwing themselves down stairs. Happened a few times. The mesh did prevent bad hops through the railings into free space. So when ever possible one staff person walked in front, and one behind known suicidal patients going between floors

The x-ray reading probably came from the fact a person reacted to a PPD test. It's a test where they see if you've been exposed to TB. X-ray's are taken to see if the TB is active. Either that or the person has an allergic reaction to the injection, and needs an x-ray to test for exposure.

PPD stands for plasma protien derivative I believe. A small amount is injected just under your skin leaving what looks like a mosquito bite. If the bite goes away in a 48 hours no problem. If it gets bigger and looks inflamed the presumption is that you've been exposed to the disease enough so your system has built up antibodies to it. Afterwards you need a yearly chest x-ray to see if you have active TB. Or you could be allergic to it and your arm could blow up like a ballon. It happened to a good buddy of mine.
