of course years ago there was no counter-aj jr installed that to grow plants on for seed starting for his farm in harveys lake-still exists today i think-also the windows went down to the floor, that heating system was installed in the 1970s for the seeds.

Oh my goodness,
This is was the best place in the sordoni suite-this was aj's rose/orchid garden-it was a year round conservatory where he grew roses in the winter, and orchids and palms in the winter-at night when the couple would entertain they would light candles, and have dim lit white xmas lights and host cocktails out in there-I went to some parties here and it was beautiful looking down at the city at night and there was a wall fountain that trickled water-it was just so peaceful. This was never the presidential suite-it was the apartment of Senator and Mrs. Andrew Sordoni-they were lovely people and very good friends of my husband Herbert and I-these photos bring back such good memories. This is Sen. Andrew Sordoni's apartment on the top floors of the old tower. I can remember being in this apartment many years ago-and I mean many-the sordoni family were friends of ours and we used to ahve card parties here-at one time, there were to sets of tiffany stained glass windows, the staircase banister was gilded in real gold leaf, he had the most equisite antique furniture and decor(I was left some things by his wife) She died in the 1980s and AJ Sordoni died in the 1970s, after that aj's kids held it, until they held a sale to sell everything else around 1995. Was never used as a hotel room though. There was no presidential suite-all presidents were guests of aj sordoni-kennedy, eisenhower, hoover, and coolidge all did stay here in the sordoni apartment-mrs, sordoni was such a lovely hospitable woman-of course my favorite thing in his apartment was the indoor conservatory rose garden-which at night was lit with candles and electric christmas like bulbs, later his son installed tables to start seeds on for his farm-still exists today-Aj grew roses in the winter, and orchids and palms in the summer, it was the most surreal place I was ever in. These picts all though they look like a desolate old ruin-bring memories back to me, Thank You so much it means so much-Bertha M. Reilly <3
