I just found out that my Great Aunt Mabel was transferred to Central Islip -Psychiatric Hospital in the 1950's. She was an artist who was institutionalized when she was in her 20's- back in the 1930's. I wonder if she lived here. I wonder if she was able to create her art as a way of coping with this kind of life. I'd love to know more!!!! Being an artist and an Art Therapist I am very interested in any information anyone might have about her- I don't even have a picture of her. She would of turned 96 this past March. Could she still be alive?

I visited my grandmother in hospital in Essex when I was 5 yrs old in1942. In the same ward there were these Iron lungs. Very frightening to me at that age

I spent all my young days at this stadium. It brings back old memories. Especially the football games between Kennedy HS and Eastside H.S.

What an odd place for a fireplace! It looks kind of like its in a corner. Well, I guess without furnaces at the time, you needed to put fireplaces wherever you could.
