Did you notice the white ceramic "outhouse" type toilet beside the sink - basically a hole in a white ceramic base which the inmate had to sit on. I don't see any flusher knob or lever so I guess the waste just fell down the hole, like an outhouse. That's what it looks like to me anyway. All your photos are superb.

The missing item above the handle has left a shadow in the wood in the shape of a crown - the crown symbol is often used to signify royalty or something by royal order (like on mustard or coats or something from, say, Harrods Department store in London, and under the crown it might say something like By Order of Her Majesty the Queen, xx (name of company) is the royal supplier of mustard or whatever the good is. I have a suede coat with this patch stitched inside.

I agree with Fla. Gator that the gated platform was possibly so that people entering, carrying perhaps a body or something else heavy on a stretcher or not, can just slide it onto the platform without having to haul it up the stairs or bend down and lift it up again.

This photo would make great wallpaper. Wonderful, Motts.

Don't want to ask a stupid question or anything, but you say this was shot with the moon out, so I assume it was at night. Why is the sky blue or bluish rather than black, and why is it so bright it looks like daylight? Is this done in the lighting or camera settings? Thanks.

Many of these hospitals show, in Motts' photos, metal screens on the windows and I fear that a lot of patients would have been killed in the event of a fire due to the screens on the windows preventing escape, and of course the locked doors to some of the rooms.

I think the leaching of the calcium is called "effluorescence". It also happens when concrete degrades due to moisture or damp, often found in basements.

How did you duplicate the shot? Did you find more water somewhere, or pour some that you brought with you onto the slab? Great shot, I don't think it is contrived, and it takes a good eye to visualize the great shot and talent with a camera to catch the water falling without being out of focus. Great work Drew and also Motts. Drew can be proud of this one.

What do the yellow notices on the doors say? I presume something like Keep Out but I am wondering what the complete text is? Is Lynne still visiting your site, Motts? Great work BTW.

Would that perhaps be a water tower? Love your work, very talented. I'm going through all your galleries, one by one. As someone (Nancy?) said, it is terrible the waste - what we see in Motts' photos like chairs, desks, medical equipment etc., and the waste of history and beautiful buildings.

I find it odd that instead of putting a glass window, they would spot-weld a piece of metal and then randomly drill holes (that are not even in straight lines) into the metal as if they forgot they wouldn't be able to see through unpierced metal. Maybe they were worried the person inside the room would break the glass but I believe they have had unbreakable glass for many many years, including glass with wire embedded in it. And if the person inside the room was so dangerous, then how were they fed? Were they let out to go to a "dining hall", or were they fed by plates slid under the door?

I think the top large item is not a light but is a heater, similar to those one sees at skating arenas. The smaller item below is a light.
