Pull Chain

That tile will never die. No matter how old, just wipe it off and it is good as new. I just realized, I'm the first commenter. Never had that happen before this set!

Bend

Is that a marble staircase? In the old building that was the nurses residence of the hospital I worked in that closed last year, the staircases, wainscotting, etc, was made from marble.

It looks like those steps/risers are made of marble.

Just goes to show ya, if you want it to last forever, tile it...

The floor is probably covered not only with mold but the deteriorated plaster from the ceiling and walls above the tile. Man, that tile lasts forever.

Funky

Besides mold spores, the light fixture looks undamaged. It's like a retro museum. Mr. Motts, u need a good respirator for these places.

That crazy pattern on the posts looks like holiday wrapping paper my granny had once a long time ago.

I always wonder what the person was doing when they walked away from equipment for the last time.

Even the paper is intact. Wonder how long they actually used that equipment?

I agree with LarryD, belongs in a museum.

I'm pretty sure one of my aunts had chairs similar to these in her house during the 60's/70's.

Reminder

AvalonSeeker

Quaaludes were "downers"-barbituates I do believe, originally used as sleeping pills but quickly snapped up in the drug world. They came in 2 strengths I believe-the higher stamped with the number 714 (hence the line in the Rick James song Superfreak "in room 714 I'll be waiting"), the lower stamped with 712.

I know in the rehab hospital where I worked, (and several others) they had some old cars set up for people to learn how to transfer and such, also they would have mini apartments to help people relearn to get around like you were at home.

Infectious Waste

AvalonSeeker

They hold red plastic bags-one problem with those is the bag is exposed, where it might get torn or a nick which theoretically, would leak the infectious waste product thruout the ward. I'm pretty sure most hospitals have gone to hard plastic red containers. We have similar containers that hold plastic laundry bags tho. Those things are pretty flimsy, too.

Actually, the mattress looks in pretty good shape.

The hospital I work in has a morgue cooler like that, it can ony fit 2 morgue litters.

Disinfectant

AvalonSeeker

I would imagine the tile/polished blockwork was not only for practical reasons like ease of cleaning, but also longevity and no need for yearly painting and the like. That would save quitte a few dollars over the life (and death) of the buildings.

Wow, that'd be an awfully hard surface if someone is in seclusion-what if the hit their head off the wall?
