HENRYTON, Md. -- Arson is suspected in a fire at an abandoned state hospital building in Carroll County.

The two-alarm fire was reported at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Henryton Hospital complex east of Sykesville. The fire was found in a theater inside the main building, and the roof and floors collapsed.

No one was injured. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Deputy Fire Marshal Bruce Bouch said the walls of the burned building are in danger of collapsing. He said the property is a frequent target of graffiti and other vandalism.

Sykesville firefighters said there have been about a half-dozen fires at the abandoned property in the past three or four years.

The facility for the developmentally disabled closed in 1985.
